Complete Works, Series I.: Musical Works, Volume 2

The "Lulu" Volume of the Alban Berg Complete Edition, presents one of the most prominent fragments in music history for the first time in a historical-critical edition. While earlier editions primarily focused on a performance-practical arrangement of the unfinished opera, the new edition reproduces the musical text solely based on the sources left by the composer. Accordingly, it includes not only the first two acts but also the beginning of Act III  with Berg’s instrumentation, and is being published for the first time in this  form. For this edition, alongside the autograph score, the vocal score, and the sketches, all later Berg-authorized sources have been consulted. Therefore, it offers a reliable musical text that has been cleared of posthumous performance-practical additions, serving as a starting point for a new scholarly or performance-practical engagement with the work.
