Born in England in 1944, Keith Emerson began playing piano by ear at 4 and started lessons at 8, but never received much formal training beyond a few years of private lessons. By 14, he was playing dance halls, bingo sessions, and accompanying at his aunt?s ballet studio. He soon moved to London and toured Europe backing T-Bone Walker.
