Flying Dancers

Inspired by ancient artwork found on the walls of the Dunhuang Cave temples of China’s Silk Road, Chen Yi’s FLYING DANCERS is a short, acrobatic work for flute, baritone saxophone, and bassoon. Translating the painted dancers’ motions into sound, bold rhythmic gestures are balanced with delicate filigree and counterpoint.
