A commission by a consortium of 20 American percussionists in 2002 brought us Maggio's Songs from the Wood for solo marimba. This is a brilliant solo showcase for advanced players in three movements: I. Crossfade prelude; II. Ballad in rosewood, and a little starlight; III. Pastoral toccata. Maggio explores the different "voices" and colors of which the marimba is capable. Duration: 13'
