Our Land

Adolphus Hailstork sets Langston Hughes’s poem “Our Land” in a heartfelt art song that envisions a country whose joyful promises extend to all, rather than offering warmth and light to some while leaving others in cold and gray. Hailstork’s lyrical vocal writing and sensitive approach to text bring immediacy to Hughes’s vision of a more just and hopeful nation. OUR LAND is available in two versions: soprano and piano (111-40357), or soprano, piano, and string quartet (111-40356).
