Richard Wernick’s Music Celebrated at Carnegie Hall

The American Symphony Orchestra, led by Leon Botstein, joined soprano Katherine Pracht in performing Richard Wernick’s “…and a time for peace” at Carnegie Hall on November 18th. The program, titled “Bernstein and the Bostonians,” drew attention to a generation of Boston-bred and/or Harvard-educated composers that Botstein believes deserve greater attention from symphony orchestras. Orpheus Plays Zwilich

A lot of Zwilich to report about this month!

Orpheus Chamber Orchestra opens its 2014-2015 season with a performance of Prologue and Variations at Carnegie Hall on October 23rd. Orpheus will also perform the work in Carmel (IN) and Goshen (IN) on October 18th and 19th, and in Stanford (CA) on November 2nd.
  

Ellen Zwilich’s was commission to write Fantasy for Solo Violin, a set piece for The International Violin Competition of Indianapolis. Archived performances of the semi-final round featuring performances of the Fantasy by the 16 competitors are now available online. The work is available for sale through Theodore Presser Company (114-40588, $9.99).
