Quick Overview

While very much an outgrowth of the chamber music tradition, this Sextet has a rather unusual structure. Two larger movements surround three shorter ones. The opening movement is multi-faceted, with its diverse parts linked by an overall form and dramatic scheme. Various textures in the musical fabric are explored and the musical lines of each section are imbued with often radically different degrees of independence and interdependence. The movement?s form is also marked by the development of contrasting themes.

The inner movements pay tribute to three of this century?s great composers ? Stravinsky, Bart
