Quick Overview

Color and Light is a musical response to the beautiful landscape paintings by artists who create and exhibit their work in and around the river town of Lambertville, New Yersey, where I live. I was drawn to the various color theories used by the local artists, who capture subtly shifting tones using a series of layers. The outer sections of this 8-minute piece are built from a gently falling 2-chord progression, presented in a slowly evolving variety of rhythmic layers and instrumental colors. In the central section, the English horn picks up the opening 2-note falling motive and weaves it into a spare melodic line; other solo lines and colors joing in, like figures exploring a slowly changing landscape. The final aural image is of a thin band of light, something beautiful shimmering in the distance, slowly disappearing into the air.
