Pasatieri’s The Hotel Casablanca Takes the Stage in March

Willamette University Theatre and the Department of Music join forces in the upcoming performance of Thomas Pasatieri‘s comedic opera, The Hotel Casablanca. Inspired by Georges Feydeau’s A Flea in Her Ear, Pasatieri (composer and librettist) tells the story of a wealthy Texas couple who wants to “toughen up” their 25-year-old nephew from New York. The action transpires at the Double-T Ranch and a seedy hotel, where assorted eccentric guests add to the mayhem of the stay. Read full preview here.

The production, directed by Allison Swensen-Mitchell, runs March 10th through March 13th. Performance details can be found here.
AUDIO EXCERPTS
Act One: Scene: “Mister Perez has arrived””

…one of those rarer-than-hens-teeth works: contemporary, well-crafted, richly musical and riotously funny, with a brisk two-hour running time and plenty of roles for energetic young voices.

–Contra Costa Times

Act Two: Aria: “Well, here I am”

Pasatieri evinces the virtues of yesteryear. He delights in uncomplicated melody and transparent harmonies. He writes in a smooth manner that respects the parameters of an artist’s vocal range.
