An Opera (Of Sorts)
Steven Stucky
Libretto by Jeremy Denk
Based on the book by Charles Rosen
By turns comic and touching, The Classical Style is an affectionate, satirical look at the cult of Classical music, and was – surprisingly – inspired by the text book of the same name by Charles Rosen. There is much to entertain audiences at many different levels, though of course, as with all the best works, the more you know, the more there is to appreciate. Rosen’s academic consideration of the three giants of the classical era, Haydn, Mozart, and Beethoven, inspired Denk to a flight of fancy where the three famous composers wander the earth in search of their faded glory.
