“Red Hot” is an energetic samba in A minor that features much of the ensemble and allows for multiple solos, making for a good closing number to a set. The tune features the sax section with a fast scalar melody while the brass interjects with bright Latin hits. The sax section is further featured in a soli section, then the entire band gets to shine in a baritone sax lead breakdown, finally culminating in an open rhythm section solo. There are two solo sections separated by the sax soli. The first is an open vamp over Am and E7 and the second is over the 32-bar AABA form to allow for an improviser to stretch out, while maintaining a one scale solo. The A harmonic minor scale (A, B, C, D, E, F, G#) will cover both solo sections.
