Quick Overview

In my early teens, I had to memorize some poems by Rumi (1207-1273), as it was required in literature classes in Tehran Music Conservatory. Rumi?s poems, along with most of the traditional Persian poems, appealed very little to me at the time. I was more concerned with the urgent political and social issues of the Iranian society in the late 1960s. Only after a journey of many years have I come to appreciate the universality and timelessness of the poems of great Persian poets, whose meanings are so artfully hidden. Many of my recent works are inspired by their poetry and Rumi?s in particular. Rumi?s poetry is filled with mysticism and with the enormous power of love.
