King of Prussia PA — Theodore Presser Company proudly announces a new partnership with flute pedagogue Amy Porter, with the exclusive worldwide distribution of two instructional DVDs. Porter has created a brand-new DVD using Telemann’s 12 Fantasias for Flute (PO-DVD2 - $29.95) to demonstrate proper performance techniques. According to Porter, these fantasias “provide a brilliant window into the style of composition used in the music of the early-eighteenth century. These short pieces were intended for flutists of all performing levels to enjoy making music on their instrument.” Also available is Porter’s best-selling DVD employing Karg-Elert’s 30 Caprices (PO-DVD1 - $29.95) in a similar fashion as teaching tools for improving performance on the instrument. Porter references Karg-Elert in noting that these caprices “form a connective link between the existing educational literature and the unusually complicated parts of modern orchestral works by Richard Strauss, Mahler, Bruckner, Reger, Pfitzner, Schillings, Schönberg, Korngold, Schrecker, Scriabin, Stravinsky and the most modern virtuosi soli.” These DVDs provide a truly unique focus on presentation and style, and serious flute performers will find them to be valuable resources.
Amy Porter is a three-time international prize winning flutist who first leapt to attention when she won the Third Kobe International Flute Competition in Japan, which led to invitations to perform throughout the world. A native of Wilmington, Delaware, Ms. Porter has appeared as soloist with many orchestras, among them Atlanta, Houston, New Hampshire, Kansas City, and Ann Arbor. She has performed throughout the world as soloist at major music centers including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Suntory Hall and the National Theater Concert Hall in Taipei, Taiwan. Ms. Porter has been heard in recital on National Public Radio, highlighted on PBS’ Live From Lincoln Center, and featured twice on the cover of Flute Talk Magazine in the United States and in The Flute and Muramatsu Flute Magazine in Japan.
