King of Prussia, PA – Theodore Presser Company is happy to announce the release of two new works for flute by Gary Schocker, just in time for NFA 2011. Both works are best suited for advanced players.

Written for flute and piano, Under the Sultan (114-41509 — Score and Part — $16.95) is an exotic showpiece inspired by Turkish folk and popular music. This jazz-infused slow-fast recital work is bound to be a show-stopper!

Syllogisms (114-41508 — Performance Score — $7.95), for two flutes, is meant to suggest a set of logical puzzles, adding extra intensity to Schocker’s lyrical and playful style. In three movements, “Breezes Blow,” “Flutes Trill,” and “Caffeine Energizes,” Schocker presents a work full of imitative counterpoint, trill textures, and racing caffeine-inspired rhythms.

Flutist-composer-pianist Gary Schocker is an accomplished musician of outstanding versatility. As a flutist, Mr. Schocker has performed with many of the world’s great orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic and the Philadelphia Orchestra (both while still in his teens), I Solisti Italiani, the Dallas Symphony, and the New Jersey Symphony. He has performed in recital throughout the United States, Australia, New Zealand, Colombia, Panama, Taiwan, Germany, France, Canada, and Japan. He often appears in concert with guitarist Jason Vieaux. Mr. Schocker teaches many students who travel to his home bases of New York City and Easton, PA, and many others in master classes throughout the world. He is currently on the faculty at NYU. In addition to being the most published living composer for flute, Gary Schocker has composed sonatas and chamber music for most instruments of the orchestra. He also has written several musicals and children’s musicals, including Far From the Madding Crowd and The Awakening, which can be heard on Original Cast Recordings.
