Theodore Presser Company Distributes New Flute Works
from Falls House Press and Billaudot
King of Prussia, PA – Theodore Presser Company affiliated publishers Falls House Press and Billaudot offer new works for the flute world, beginning with an arrangement of Giuseppe Rabboni’s Concertino Op. 50 (524-08529 — Score and Part — $18.95), originally composed for flute and piano. A virtuoso of the instrument during the 19th century, Rabboni wrote for the flute with brilliantly intimate knowledge. Here, his Concertino, op. 50 has been reworked for piccolo and piano by Jean-Louis Beaumadier. From Falls House Press, we have Ann Cameron Pearce’s arrangement of Malagueña (FC-ACP14 — Score and Parts — $23.95) for flute choir. Known as the Cuban Gershwin, Lecuona wrote Malagueña as the sixth and final movement of his Suite Andalucia for piano, referring to the southern Spanish port city of Malaga. A flamenco piece, Pearce’s arrangement is a delightful study in contrasting tempi and styles, with impish themes, driving bass lines, frivolous arpeggios and a dramatic flair. In addition, Falls House has published Pearce’s original composition, Cosmic Horizons (FC-ACP15 — Score and Parts — $19.95), for flute choir. Written in celebration of the Raleigh Area Flute Association’s 25th anniversary, this work exemplifies the organization’s unofficial motto: “The sky is the limit.” The main theme evokes meteors zipping sporadically in different directions throughout the solar system with multiple meter changes, and the secondary theme suggests the mysterious nature of outer space, with the “star” being a singing bowl or handbell and wooden dowel. All of the works listed in this release are for advanced players.
