King of Prussia, PA — Theodore Presser Company proudly announces the release of
Stepping Out (164-00277– Score and Part - $19.95), a solo work for contrabass and piano by beloved American composer Peter Schickele. Commissioned by the legendary bassist Gary Karr and his accompanist Harmon Lewis,
Stepping Out is outgoing and exuberant, featuring two highly stylized dances (polka and tango) followed by a driven, jazz-tinged finale with plenty of virtuosic passages. It is best suited for advanced players. For added convenience and flexibility, this publication includes separate solo bass parts for "Standard Orchestral Tuning" and "Concert Tuning."
Composer, musician, author, satirist -- Peter Schickele is internationally recognized as one of the most versatile artists in the field of music. His works, now well in excess of 100 for symphony orchestras, choral groups, chamber ensembles, voice, movies and television, have given him "a leading role in the ever-more-prominent school of American composers who unselfconsciously blend all levels of American music" (John Rockwell, The New York Times).
