King of Prussia, PA – Theodore Presser Company announces the publishing of a new work for advanced guitarists by performer and composer David Leisner, entitled
Labyrinths (144-40539 — $12.95). Taking its cues from the visual patterns in nature, this work contains five movements, each of which is a musical illumination of a moment in time. Repetition and slow evolution of the simple musical materials create a subtly rich world of activity within an environment of seeming stasis. According to Leisner, “the visual patterns of nature are a mesmerizing, infinite source of inspiration. Waves of wind and water, the shifting play of light and shadow, the maze of lines and shapes on rocks and trees, colors that subtly evolve over time.... In recent compositions, I have attempted to translate some of this into music.”
David Leisner is an extraordinarily versatile musician with a multi-faceted career as an electrifying performing artist, a distinguished composer, and a master teacher. Regarded as one of America's leading classical guitarists, his superb musicianship and provocative programming have been applauded by critics and audiences around the world. During the time he was unable to perform due to a disabling hand injury, Mr. Leisner became a highly respected composer noted for the emotional and dramatic power of his music. His works have been performed worldwide by such eminent artists as Sanford Sylvan, Paul Sperry, Robert Osborne, Juliana Gondek, Susan Narucki, D'Anna Fortunato, Warren Jones, Eugenia Zukerman, Benjamin Verdery, the Los Angeles Guitar Quartet, the Saturday Brass Quintet, the Eastman and Oberlin Percussion Ensembles and orchestras from coast to coast.
