King of Prussia PA — Building on the success of his Sonatine de Giverny for piccolo, Daniel Dorff delivers the much-anticipated sequel, FLASH! ( 114-41360 • $12.95) . Inspired by its success, as well as young virtuoso Kate Prestia-Schaub’s personal request for new recital material, Dorff turned out a piece that showcases true star quality. Dorff says, “I decided to write a flashy showpiece that sounds dazzling and falls under the fingers easily, with gleefully driving rhythms. The music is like a rhythmic tightrope, but it's exhilaratingly bright and cheerful the whole way, too .” FLASH! is garnering critical acclaim even before it hits the shelves, having been programmed for future performances by piccolo legend Walfrid Kujala, and as previously mentioned, Kate Prestia-Schaub at the 2009 National Flute Association convention and the 2009 International Piccolo Symposium .
Daniel Dorff's music has been performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra, commissioned five times by the Philadelphia Orchestra’s education department resulting in over 20 performances, and commissioned twice by the Minnesota Orchestra’s Kinder Konzert series. Dorff’s works have also been performed by the Baltimore Symphony, Pittsburgh Symphony, and numerous others. In addition, Dorff was the pre-concert lecturer for seven Philadelphia Orchestra concerts in March 2009
