Five New Schocker Offerings for Harpists |
King of Prussia, PA – Theodore Presser Company has now published five new works by Gary Schocker for harp. Dubbed "the most published living composer of flute music," Schocker has contributed mightily to the flute world, providing a rich library of well over 100 solo works and chamber music. His compositions also cover a range of solo instrumental, ensemble, and orchestral works. He has recently turned his creative generosity to harp, with a collection of 21 Christmas carols, "Joy to the World!" and his harp solo, "Quest-Reunion," which was chosen by the American Harp Society as required repertoire. We now present five new publications for harp.

In Forest (114-41571 - score - $7.99), Schocker ponders the forest setting through two portraits of diverse styles: "Clearing" and "Stream," calm serenity and constant motion. For intermediate to advanced harpists. See sample pages as PDF here. |

Schocker's first harp Sonata (114-41570 - score - $7.99) offers three movements (1. Changes; 2. Procession, Remembering; 3.Facing Forward) in approachable form for advancing students. Perfect for year-end recitals. For intermediate to advanced harpists. See sample pages as PDF here. |

This is not the first new Schocker work to be inspired by a feline housemate, but it is the first for which he has chosen the harp as narrator. The suite of twelve short pieces, Things I Learned From My Cat (114-41569 - score - $11.99) features glimpses into the cat's psyche, as expressed on the vertical strings, such as "How to Frolic," "How to Get What I Want," "Light Rain is OK," and more. The PDF sample shows the opening passages of each piece. For intermediate to advanced harpists. |

The title hints at preludes inspired by various trees, and that's exactly what this is - a set of five descriptive pieces inspired by "Cypress," "Quaking Aspen," "Willows," and more. Treeludes (114-41574 - score - $7.99) features Schocker's signature melodic phrasing and dynamics. For intermediate to advanced. See sample pages as PDF here. |
 |
For a singing harp, Waves (114-41573 - score - $5.99) follows the natural ebb and flow of a calm shoreline, with its tension and easing of the melodic line. This short descriptive miniature is suitable for recital programming by advancing students. For intermediate to advanced. See a sample page as JPG here. |
