Lior Yekutieli
Fairy Tales Sonatina
Guitar
Yekutieli successfully traverses classical and jazz in performance, and his compositions express his uique voice for guitar. The middle movement expresses his personal loss, not being able to perform for many years, before he regained full use of his hand. The first movement, Magic, is a reflection on music creation, while the third, Pride, captures a flamenco influence. For advanced guitarists. Giovanni Battista Marella
Sonata in La Maggiore
New Karl Scheit Edition
Edited by Olaf Van Gonnissen, Thomas Müller-Pering, Johannes Monno
Two Guitars
The editors of the New Karl Scheit Guitar Edition, guitarists all, have unearthed a rare gem in Marella's Sonata. Having made his mark as an accomplished violinist in the 18th century scene of Paris and Dublin, Marella relocated to London to continue his career, becoming also a teacher of guitar and composer of study volumes for that instrument. The Sonata in La Maggiore is taken from a second volume of pieces dating from 1762, and consists of three movements - Andantino, Largo, and Menuetto a theme and five variations). Johann Nepomuk Hummel
Grande Sérénade en Potpourri (Serenata prima, Op. 63)
Piano, Violin, Guitar(Viola), Clarinet(Flute), Bassoon(Violoncello)
Editor Matanya Ophee knows that Hummel wrote quite a bit more music than just a concerto for trumpet, and the music world is finding that to be true, more and more. A student of both Mozart and Haydn, Hummel inhabited the world of Beethoven, Liszt, Schubert, and Schumann, eventually becoming a collaborator with famed guitarist Mauro Giuliani, both in composition and performance. Ophee's critical edition of the Grande Sérénade en Potpourri is thoroughly researched and edited for better performance in alternate parts. The set of parts includes solo parts with included alternates, with score sold separately. For advanced performers.

Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart
The Magic Flute by W. A. Mozart, Op. 40
Arranged by Antoine de Lhoyer, edited by Matanya Ophee
Guitar, Violin, and Viola
This edition of Mozart’s opera is a perfect vehicle for the introduction of intermediate guitar students to the performance of chamber music with other musicians. The sequence of the numbers does not follow the original story line of the opera; there is a purposeful disconnect between the separate movements of this apparent suite of famous melodies, suggesting that individual movements of the arrangement could be performed independently of the entire work in any suitable combination. For advanced players.

The Trois Pièces de Société, op. 36 was Fernando Sor's second set of "society pieces." Published in 1828, these consisted of six short, entertaining pieces grouped into three pairs. François De Fossa
Cinq Contre Danses
Extraites des Opéras de Rossini et deux Valses favorites, op. 8
Guitar
The seven short pieces in this work for solo guitar are arrangements of abstracts from operas by Rossini. However, with the exception of the last piece, these pieces cannot be identified as originating in any of the operas by Rossini. They may have been composed by de Fossa himself, or he may have taken them from one or more unidentified composers. The only piece in this collection that can be safely identified as coming from a Rossini opera is a duet aria from the first act, third scene of The Barber of Seville, where Figaro explains to Count Almaviva where he has his barber shop and what he can see in the shop window.
Compositions by Rossini have been arranged by many guitarist composers. The Barber of Seville has been named “the greatest of all operas” and it is understandable that others have made versions for use at home and the concert stage. The original key is G but this instrumental guitar version is in A. For advanced players.

David Leisner
Disturbed, A Lullaby
Guitar
David Leisner describes Disturbed, a Lullaby as a lullaby interrupted, a disturbed state of mind that can never quite relax, or both. Either way, this is a lullaby for a troubled time. The work begins with a floating phrase that builds gradually into dense and unsettling counterpoint, eventually returning to the beginning theme, with a ghost of the lullaby in harmonics. Dur.: 5’

Fernando Sor
Ariettina
Transcribed by Matanya Ophee
Voice, Guitar and Piano
The dedicatee of this Ariettina, Zinaida Aleksandrovna Volkonskaya (1792-1862), was a famous Russian princess who was known as a writer, poet, composer and singer with a renowned mezzo-soprano voice. In October 11, 1825, the Princess Volkonskaya gave a private party in her house in Moscow on the occasion of her birthday. This was a gala event that included several orchestral and theatrical presentations by many artists. We know that Sor appeared in that event as a singer, singing a duet with a certain Mlle. Akulova. The poem O dolce amor di Zefiro, written by Italian poet Angela Veronese Mantovani (1778–1847), makes up the text of this work. This edition is based on an autograph manuscript. For an advanced vocalist and players.

John Dowland
A Dream – Melancholy Galliard
– Sir John Smith His Almaine – A Fancy
Guitar
15th and 16th century English composer John Dowland is credited with pioneering an emotional musical approach to the music of the lute. While the French school of playing was dominant during his time, Dowland further developed the tone, introducing a smoothly elegant melodic style. The four pieces in this New Karl Scheit Guitar Edition perfectly demonstrate Dowland’s contributions to the music world, and have been adapted for classical guitar with help of tablature from The Collected Music of John Dowland by Diana Poulton.

Joan Manén
Fantasia-Sonata op. A = 22
Edited by Angelo Gilardino
Guitar
Commissioned by well-known 20th-century classical guitarist Andrés Segovia, who called it “the most important work written for the guitar.” this is the only known guitar work by Joan Manén. The two most likely met in 1915, when Segovia came to Barcelona, along with guitarist Miguel Llobet. This newly engraved, fresh edition most closely resembles the original manuscript by the composer, with Segovia’s modifications for the guitar. Where Segovia’s notes were unclear, editor Angelo Gilardino interpreted them with advice from other scholars of the instrument. For advanced players.

David Leisner
Labyrinths
Solo Guitar
Taking its cues from the visual patterns in nature, Labyrinths contains five movements, each of which is a musical illumination of a moment in time. Repetition and slow evolution of the simple musical materials create a subtly rich world of activity within an environment of seeming stasis. From the composer: “The visual patterns of nature are a mesmerizing, infinite source of inspiration. Waves of wind and water, the shifting play of light and shadow, the maze of lines and shapes on rocks and trees, colors that subtly evolve over time.... In recent compositions, I have attempted to translate some of this into music.” For advanced players. Dur.: 15’

| "Leisner's own five movement suite Labyrinths (2007) signaled an ingenious and arresting compositional voice. The opening Shimmer stems from a four-note arpeggiated chord, repeated with small changes to hypnotic effect. Shadow is a playful scherzo, alternating the high and low ranges of the instrument. Spooky Halloween sounds dominate Shiver. A chromatic subject is transformed into dissonant, extreme outbursts in Shatter. The interplay of loud and soft dynamics is emphatically accentuated throughout the movement. Shelter is a modernist lullaby, an introspective pattern in repetitive sequence with a touch of intruding blues. Leisner deftly transmitted his arresting creation, reveling in his coloristic and textural complexities. Labyrinths is a fine addition to the classical guitar repertoire." -- Lawrence Budmen, South Florida Classical Review |

Ilya Shatrov
On the Hills of Manchuria (Waltz)
Edited by Matanya Ophee
Guitar Solo (6- and 7-string versions)
More than 100 years after its composition, On the Hills of Manchuria Waltz remains widely popular in Russia, and was featured in the 1999 American film Onegin, starring Ralph Fiennes. It was written by Ilya Shatrov, a bandmaster of the Russian Mokshansky regimental orchestra during the Russian-Japanese war of 1904-1905. The waltz was published in many different forms after the war, but this version for guitar is based on an arrangement for the Russian seven-string guitar, made by Alexander Soloviov in the late 19th century. While only moderately difficult, this arrangement expresses intense melodic emotion, evoking nationalism and pride. For intermediate players.

Richard Pick
School of Guitar - The Guitar in Pedagogy Practice Performance
Guitar Method
Editions Orphée presents a new edition of the Richard Pick School of Guitar method, presented in three parts; completely re-engraved and further edited to replace the previous edition. Rather than functioning as a traditional method book, the School of Guitar is a tool to be used by both student and teacher, aiming to provide both with practical material which can be to understand the complex symbology used in guitar music.
Book I is an overview of the problems encountered in the pedagogy of the guitar; meant to help teachers in formulating for themselves and for their students a practical strategy in organizing the teaching activity efficiently. Books II and III are dedicated to the sharp and flat keys respectively. Each key is presented in a graduated exposition of basic scales in the first position, a cadence of the principal chords, an extended scale, the scale in triads in all possible inversions in both open and closed voicings, a similar treatment of all seventh chords on the scale, ending with a series of resolution studies.

Perhaps the most famous of the Baroque lutists, Silvius Leopold Weiss also composed prolifically for the instrument, and these works are welcome additions to the usual guitar repertoire. Although only a few of Weiss’ pieces for solo lute are truly suitable for the guitar, the idiomatic sound of both instruments is close enough to justify these arrangements. For advanced players.

Antoine de Lhoyer
Trio for Guitar, Violin, and Viola, Op. 38
Edited by Matanya Ophee
Guitar, Violin, and Viola
18th and 19th century French composer and guitarist Antoine de Lhoyer is thought to have written this trio for amateur musicians to play for fun at home, as evidenced by the structure; shying away from extensive modulation and keeping a slow tempo. This edition, edited by Matanya Ophee, is based on an early 19th century edition, now kept at the Library of Congress. For advanced players.

Mark Delpriora
Variations on a Theme by Sor
(Variazioni Attraverso l'Ottocento)
Guitar solo
From the composer: “In the tradition of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Variations à travers les siècles, Astor Piazzolla’s Histoire du Tango, and Dominick Argento’s Letters from Composers, I have taken a historical view of composition for my Variations on a Theme by Sor. This new set of variations follows Fernando Sor’s little Menuet in c minor op. 24 no. 1 as it makes its epic journey across time and space through the nineteenth century and into the early years of the twentieth century. During its travels, the theme meets and pays its respects to the godfathers of nineteenth century music, and as a result, is irrevocably transformed.” For advanced players.

Fernando Sor
Variationen über ein Thema von Mozart, Op.9
Edited by Johannes Monno
Guitar solo
UE's New Karl Scheit Guitar Edition presents a quintessential piece of the guitarist's repertoire. Mozart had a great impact upon Fernando Sor, and Sor has had a great impact upon classical guitarists for generations, with his Variations on a Theme of Mozart among the greatest challenges. Editor Johannes Monno, in his preface to the publication, points to the "brilliant finale that makes great technical demands on the player," but would we expect less from Fernando Sor? For advanced players.

Santiago de Murcia
Villanos - Fandango - Gallardas - Cumbees - Marizapalos - La Jotta
Edited by Olaf Van Gonnissen, Thomas Müller-Pering and Johannes Monno
Guitar
The dances and sets of variations published in this volume come from the Codice Saldívar, a manuscript that was discovered by Mexican musicologist Dr. Gabriel Saldívar y Silva in León in 1943. Although the title page of the manuscript is missing, with other evidence, we can assume with great certainty that it is the work of Santiago de Murcia. This collection demonstrates de Murcia’s interest in a wide range of music for guitar and like many other Spanish composers, the inspiration he found in the new sounds and rhythms brought home by Spanish seafarers. The result is a rich and colorful feast of baroque guitar repertoire. For advanced players.

Johann Sebastian Bach
6 Suites, Volume 1: Suites I-II, BWV1007-1008
Edited by Anne Ricquebourg
Arranged by Sabine Chefson
Harp
Esteemed French publisher Billaudot presents Volume 1 of its series of transcriptions of Bach’s 6 Suites, originally written for unaccompanied solo cello. Suites 1 and 2, contained in this volume, were edited by master harpist Anne Ricquebourg and transcribed by Sabine Chefson. They honor the original melodic structure of the cello composition but a few bass notes have been added for extra richness, and are transposed up one octave, as the original octave is too low for harp. For the intermediate player.

Encounters XV "The Meditative Encounter"
Percussion (solo) and Amplified Guitar
Kraft's series of Encounters, featuring percussion paired with another instrument, is completed with the release of this duo with amplified guitar. Commissioned by the Fromm Foundation for Southwest Chamber Music, Encounters XV uses the amplification of the guitar to allow a more equal footing with the percussion, which uses marimba and vibraphone, along with Asian gongs, temple bowls, graduated drums, and tam tams. As can be expected from an accomplished orchestral timpanist, Kraft uses a variety of techniques to achieve his specific sonoric goals. Both percussion and guitar parts include the other's part in cue size, so all page turns are anticipated and both players see each other's part. For advanced performers. Dur.: 11'

Isabelle Dances
Solo Marimba
Composed for percussionist Isabelle Huang, the 15-minute suite Isabelle Dances, a sonic landscape for marimba, is explored in the course of four movements. The outer movements (“Bounce” and “Stomp”) showcase the marimba’s rhythmic drive and highly-charged neo-primitivism, while the inner movements (“Dream” and “Hover”) consist of inventive tremolos, evoking the unfolding of time. The second and fourth movements are subtitled as homages to Chopin and to Bartók. For advanced players. Dur.: 15’
