Ewazen takes great pleasure in writing for brass, and being asked for a concerto for three trombones was pure delight. For Maestra JoAnn Faletta and the trombone section of the Buffalo Philharmonic, Ewazen has crafted a three-movement standout, in what is, admittedly, underserved repertoire. Ewazen's double trombone quintet was composed in memoriam for the late Glenn Dodson, and "reflects (Dodson's) lively spirit" and the "singing sounds" of his instrument.
