Dan Welcher Laboring Songs, Movement I and Circular Marches , Movement II from Symphony No. 3, “Shaker Life”
for Large Wind Ensemble (Full Scores)
Welcher has become fascinated with spiritual practices outside of the mainstream. His best-selling ZION for concert band, for instance, came about from his study of the music and worship of the Mormon pioneers of Utah. Laboring Songs and the companion Circular Marches were born from his immersion in the history of the famed Shakers. Their most widely known hymn, Simple Gifts, may have led Welcher to research other, more obscure, Shaker hymns, and several of these are quoted in the new Symphony No. 3, "Shaker Life." Presser is pleased to publish full scores of these two movements for large wind ensemble for library and study purposes.

Dan Welcher Minstrels of the Kells for Large Wind Ensemble (Full Score)
Welcher has created a wholly-Celtic masterpiece in Minstrels of the Kells. Citing a goodly number of Irish classics, he covers the duality of the music - the soul-searing angst and mournfulness, and the toe-tapping reels and jigs that we know and love. The whole is a marvelous concert piece, the result of a commission by the Big Twelve Band Directors Assocation. (An interesting option - Welcher provides a spot in the second movement for addition of a "pub band" [Irish folk band] and a three-minute vamp!)

Dan WELCHER Perpetual Song for Wind Ensemble (Full Score)
A commission in celebration of the 200th anniversary of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point could be handled by no finer composer for wind ensemble than Welcher. For Perpetual Song, Welcher also considered the fact that the year 2000 marked the 250th anniversary of the death of J.S. Bach and the 25th of Shostakovich, and he crafts his piece in hommage to these past giants, as well. The result is a work of a single movement in four distinct sections. (Dur.: 8')

Dan Welcher Songs Without Words Five Mood Pieces for Large Ensemble (Full Score)
Commissioned by the College Band Directors’ Association, Songs Without Words includes five short movements, each a musical exploration of a specific mood (1. Manic,
2. Reflective, 3. Giddy, 4. Stunned, 5. Confident), as expressed by winds, brass, and percussion. The finale quotes themes from the previous movements, then, says Welcher, “ends in a bouyant cloud of optimism.” Published in 9X14 full score.

Dan Welcher Symphony No. 4, "American Visionary" for Large Wind Ensemble (Full Score)
Commissioned by the University of Texas to honor a true Texas (and American) visionary, George Kozmetsky. Robert Maggio Invisible Soundtrack (Hero) for Concert Band
Commissioned by the Pennsylvania chapter of Phi Beta Mu (Internationall Bandmasters Fraternity). A 5-minute work which describes the prototypical hero journey, as distilled by Joseph Campbell and Christopher Vogler. Vivid musical imagery describes this “journey” from beginning to end.
Maggio develops and creates variations on melodies written by students in a high school music writing class! Three movements include: 1. Grand Opening; II. A Friend You Know Really Well; III. Psychedelic Circus.
Peter Schickele Take Me Back to Funk, Nebraska Big Band (Sax 0-2-2-1; 0-4-4-0; Pno. Cb. Drums)
Written in 1962, arranged in 1988 and premiered that year by the Harvard Jazz Ensemble. Manuscript facsimile, as rescued from the archives of American Public Radio in Minneapolis. Take Me Back was written by a young (27) Schickele, during his 4-year stint as a teacher at Juilliard, after which he decided to take his act on the road. Fortuitous, that!

Artur Schnabel Duodecimet Full Score
Instrumentation by René Liebowitz
Schnabel's first twelve-tone work, aptly titled Duodecimet, was left unscored at his death. Fortunately, he had previously shown and discussed the "short score" with René Liebowitz, who later undertook the mission of completing the work, including the addition of percussion lines, as Schnabel may have intended. Thus, this cherished work from Schnabel's last days ("this silly little Duodecimet," said he) is preserved for us and is here published in score form.
