Theodore Presser is pleased to announce that James Matheson is joining its roster of distinguished composers.
Matheson has rapidly emerged as one of the most distinctive, vital, and creative musical voices of his generation. In September of 2009, James became Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic’s innovative Composer Fellowship Program. Upcoming projects include a new work for orchestra, commissioned by the New York Philharmonic, a Violin Concerto, co-commissioned by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic (with soloists Baird Dodge, Martin Chalifour, in Chicago and Los Angeles respectively), a piano quintet commissioned by the Cheswatyr Foundation for the Borromeo String Quartet and pianist Judith Gordon, and a new work for soprano and chamber ensemble for Sequitur.

Happy Birthday to Peter Schickele, who turns 75 on July 17th. Please enjoy our special birthday tribute Composer Portrait:
Coincidentally, we are reliably informed that this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the first discovery of manuscripts by P.D.Q. Bach (1807 – 1742?), and the unleashing of those works upon an unsuspecting public.
