Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart Concerto for Flute Choir Arranged by David H. Bailey
Flute Choir
Mozart's Concerto for Flute Choir, arranged by David H. Bailey, is based on the Horn Quintet in Eb Major, K. 407, featuring solo alto flute, including an optional solo C flute part. Mozart is one composer whose music is always a pleasure for flute choirs to practice and perform, and this work provides a great opportunity for a soloist who might otherwise not feel comfortable being a soloist.
This arrangement includes a solo part for C instrument, which can be played on any of the C flutes: piccolo, C flute, bass flute, or contrabass flute; and also includes a solo part for alto flute. The ensemble parts are for C flute, two alto flutes, and bass flute, but there is an alternate C flute part to substitute for the first alto flute part, to make the ensemble parts more versatile for groups who decide to have the solo played on alto flute. This concerto presents the musicians with the ever-present challenges of Mozart's music, while making it some of the most rewarding to listen to. For college level or professional players. Thomas Schuttenhelm On the Verge of Remembrance for Flute and Guitar
Three movement concert work by Connecticut composer Schuttenhelm, an accomplished guitarist in his own right. About the work, Falls House Press says, “Each movement explores an aspect of memory and uses it to drive the musical argument of the composition. The first movement, Moderato, is in ABA form. The second movement, Mysterioso, is in rondo form. The timbre of the guitar changes with each return, thus adding a distinct sound to each appearance: first pizzicato, then normal, and ending with a tamboura-violente. ...If the second movement represents the dynamic climax of the piece, the third and final movement is a release from all the tensions of the previous two. The guitar has an elegant, almost sentimental tremolo solo while the flute gently plays its haunting melody. It has a certain nostalgia to it, as it recalls some of the themes heard in the first two movements, and floats above the guitar with Ivesian reverence.”

Jonathan Cohen Precipitation to the Dance Flute Choir
Precipitation to the Dance musically simulates a skier’s start to a morning of powdery snow—that rare and endless blanket of white for which skiers yearn. In the first scene, the snow falls peacefully, gloriously, and lyrically at night. With little transition, the second scene describes the smooth beauty of the snow as seen from the rising lift. Anticipation finally gives way to the third scene, when the skiers leap from the lifts and dance through the powder in a rollicking jig that includes jumps, turns, and a triumphal return to the mountain base. Scored for piccolo, 4 C flutes, alto flute, bass flute, and optional contrabass, this is a fun piece to play for flute choirs! For players of moderate skill. Duration: 4’ 45”.
